        Application Oriented Label Suggestions

Label India can suggest the appropriate product to the users facing difficulty in fulfilling a particular Labeling function.

        Importance Of Labels

To most of the people, Labels are just a pieces of sticky paper, but labels (and tags) have countless retail and non-retail applications. Many of them require a dedicated end-use, which makes labels among the most technical subject of the print sectors. Label Converters, therefore, tend to be problem solvers, offering a Consultancy type service for a diverse range of Customers.

The importance of labels in our daily lives is Self-Evident. Retail labeling informs us about the contents, nature or purpose of Packed Product, which play an important role in the overall marketing of consumer products.

Industrial labels and tags incorporate bar codes and other data to aid the logistical storage and tracking of manufactured products.

Computer data processed labels play vital roles in the office or factory, while form/label constructions have many uses, from mail order documentation to medical records.

        Various Label types vs Applications
There are many different types of labels, each designed for different applications.

        Label Materials

Paper: An inexpensive, White paper with a permanent adhesive backing. An attractive solution to applications requiring a short-term-use label in a clean and dry environment.

Polypropylene: A white plastic film with a very aggressive adhesive backing. An excellent product for permanent labels being used indoors.

Polyester: A very durable, white film with a permanent adhesive. Resistant to a wide variety of petroleum based chemicals and mild solvents. A good choice for applications that require very long lasting labels.

Destructible Vinyl: A fragile, white, vinyl film with a very strong adhesive. If attempts are made to remove the label it will break into small pieces, making the removal of a complete label virtually impossible. A good choice for security labels where tampering or removal of labels is not allowed.

Note: Self-Adhesive products have a limited Shelf Life. Store in a cool or dry place. Press firmly when applying.

        Self Adhesive Labels on Reels

It is important, when anticipating the use of any form of self-adhesive label, to be aware of the variety of details affecting ones choice, and the reasons why these decisions must be made.

        The initial selection must be of: Label Size, Face Material and Adhesive, however, the choice of any of these factors could, and probably will, depend on the following points too;

        • The environment in which the finished label will be used.
        • The surface on which the label will be attached.
        • The expected 'life' of the label.
        • The type of information to be added.

        1. Face Material
This is literally the material of the label made of. For the majority of retail as well as industrial labeling needs, it will be Chromo Paper. Although there are many synthetic products, such as Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Vinyl and Metallic Foil, which are not much in common use.

Most face materials are described by their weight in 'Grams Per Square Meter' (gsm), for example 60 gsm.

        2. Backing Paper
Usually a 'Glassine' material that has the two fold purpose of supporting the labels in a roll or fanfold stack and having the properties to allow any label to be removed with ease, regardless of the adhesive type.

The backing paper can be in a selection of colors ranging from white to blue but in most circumstances this will not be a decision one will need to make. If, however, you are intending to overprint the labels using a 'Thermal Transfer' printer a 'craft' or 'yellow' color backing paper will be required, so that the machine can differentiate between label and backing.

        3. Adhesive
In general terms there are two descriptions for adhesives; 'Permanent' and 'Removable'. Both types are intended to adhere securely to a surface, permanently in one case and in the other to be peeled off when desired.
